Why are you asking the Oracle forum how to create a shared disk on VMWare? Seems you should ask in a VMWare forum.

If, however, you Google around, you'd find some step-by-step guides for setting up RAC on VMWare.

Attached is some notes I made long before to test RAC on different scenarios - the link I used is there is the file and my notes.

But is designed to use with Oracle VirtualMachine - which I personally prefer.

    Hope it helps.

    Hi Rama,

Thanks very much for your response and attached file. I initially used virtualBox but encountered some few challenges (64bit guest Linux OS not working).

Anyway, i will try again using virtual box and file attached and hope it works.

    thanks very much.

why to switch Virtual box .You need to use a software called OPenfiler.Download from here .

    https://www.openfiler.com/community/download

If you want to have production like implementation then use openfiler as configuring shared storage.

If you want to use VMWare, then you have no choice but to come up with another solution for  your shared storage. The most common method is to set up an iSCSI target. As others have said, this can be done with OpenFiler, but it is not the only option. When I did this, I ended up with a third VM that was my iSCSI target. The disk local to that third VM became iSCSI disks to my RAC nodes (other VMs). Personally, I found a less-than-desirable option.

VirtualBox makes it so much easier. Create a disk file, make it shared on each VM. If you need links, let me know.

I initially used virtualBox but encountered some few challenges (64bit guest Linux OS not working).

You might want to get that resolved. Depending on what those challenges were, they might be easy fixes. On my workstation, VB did not support 64-bit guest OS's, but I had to turn on a few options in the BIOS and everything has worked well for me. What were your issues? You might want to start a separate thread for that.

    Cheers,

    Brian

If the host is 64bit there's no limitation for 64bit guest:
