Oculus Teases VR Film 'Dear Angelica'

Animated moviemaking is getting a whole lot more immersive, thank you to Oculus.

At the Sundance Film Festival this week, Oculus previewed a new virtual reality movie headed to the Rift later this year, Love Angelica. Adult by Oculus Story Studio, the animated motion-picture show tells the tale of a teenage girl named Jessica who looks back on the stories her mom told her as a child.

"Equally she recreates these vivid landscapes in her mind, you're pulled into the magical and dreamlike worlds of her memories," the Oculus squad wrote in a Tuesday weblog post. "Everything in the film is rendered in existent time. When you move your gaze in VR, the scenes and characters come up to life around you lot."'

To create the illustrative await of the film, the Story Studio team built a new product tool, dubbed Quill, which lets the film'southward illustrators "pigment entire scenes in VR" using Oculus Touch hand controllers.

"This technique frees artists from the traditional apartment canvass of pen and newspaper and lets them create directly in VR," the team wrote.

Meanwhile, Oculus also this week announced a new VR filmmaking education initiative.

The Story Studio team volition hold a serial of workshops designed to "inspire and educate the next generation of VR filmmakers" next month at New York University and the University of Southern California. The workshops kick off February. thirteen.

"The pic community continues to push button the boundaries of what's possible in VR, from live-activeness documentaries and films shot with 360 camera rigs, to the beginnings of interactive movie house using Oculus Affect," the team wrote.

Some other VR motion-picture show that debuted at Sundance is the horror-themed Sisters fromOtherworld Interactive.
